Daniel Beck
@danielbeck
I lead engineering, product, and design teams to improve how software is built and shipped.
What I'm looking for
At McGraw Hill, I advised Higher Education leaders and 19 engineering team leads supporting roughly 200 engineers, using DORA and SPACE metrics to drive department-wide improvements. I also led a greenfield sales-enablement initiative that opened the flagship Connect product to safe unauthenticated sampling.
Previously at VidMob, I helped scale engineering from about 25 to 150 people, led front-end work across up to nine distributed teams, and owned developer experience, technical quality, and engineering practices. I build products and teams across software engineering, design, and product development—from a browser and data-aggregation venture at Brightmatter to a real-time transmedia storytelling platform at In The Telling.

Player/coach team lead coordinating front- and back-end development across multiple software products.
• Built a feature-flag system that remains in use across the product line.
• Improved previously undocumented codebase architecture and underlying business-rule documentation.
• Founded VidMob’s in-house design system in partnership with the Design team.
I started Brightmatter as a solo venture to build a new type of web browser, focused on extracting and aggregating relevant data from web pages and discarding the rest. It used a combination of (pre-LLM) machine learning, crowdsourced data, and heuristics borrowed from the web-scraping world to identify which parts of a page are most likely to be relevant; and then allows the user to decide how
Product designer and lead front-end developer at inthetelling.com, responsible for, well, all the visible parts.
When I joined ITT (now rebranded Narrasys), they had a proof-of-concept web application that could display transcripts and some supporting content alongside a video timeline, backed by a largely manual data-entry process. I led a full redesign of the product into a platform that all
