Damien Sedgwick

I’m a Senior Software Engineer with deep frontend expertise and experience building full-stack, cloud-based products using React, TypeScript, Node.js and Google Cloud.

Over the past seven years, I’ve worked across the software delivery lifecycle. From understanding user and business problems through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support. Although frontend engineering is my strongest discipline, I’m comfortable working across APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, authentication, payments and third-party integrations.

I enjoy working where product thinking and engineering overlap. I take ownership beyond individual tickets, ask questions about the outcome we are trying to achieve and make pragmatic technical decisions that balance delivery speed, maintainability and user experience. I’m particularly effective when taking an idea from early exploration through to a reliable product used by real customers.

My recent work has increasingly focused on AI-enabled products and developer workflows. I’ve completed Anthropic training covering the Claude API, Model Context Protocol, Claude Code and agent skills, alongside building applications using LLMs, structured generation, evaluation systems, agentic workflows, memory and human-in-the-loop review. I’m interested in applying AI where it creates genuine user value, rather than adding it simply because it is available.

Alongside application development, I have experience with Google Cloud, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, distributed systems and production observability. I’m Google Cloud certified and enjoy designing systems that are straightforward to operate, test and evolve.

Outside my day job, I have founded and co-founded my own software products. These include Basket List, a smart meal-planning and shopping-list platform for families, and cv2spec, an AI-assisted platform that helps jobseekers create tailored CVs and cover letters. Building my own products has given me hands-on experience across product discovery, UX, engineering, infrastructure, analytics, pricing, payments, marketing and customer feedback.

I’m most interested in senior or lead-level frontend and full-stack roles where I can remain hands-on, contribute to technical direction and help a team build useful, well-engineered products. I’m particularly drawn to teams working with React, TypeScript, Node.js, cloud platforms and applied AI.
