I'm a Senior Android Engineer based in Sri Lanka with 4+ years of professional Android experience in Kotlin and Java, and a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology from SLIIT.
At Aeturnum Lanka, I grew from Associate Software Engineer to Senior Software Engineer, building features for a portfolio of 400+ restaurant-brand apps covering loyalty programs, gift cards, and offers. My key achievements include:
- Leading R&D on Android accessibility, improving usability for users with disabilities through WCAG-aligned color contrast and accessibility features.
- Creating a Figma-based Android asset workflow that removed my team's dependency on Photoshop and Illustrator, then training the team to use it.
- Migrating legacy Java screens to Kotlin, including loyalty card, gift card, offers, and check-in features.
- Mentoring three junior Android developers.
- Monitoring Google Play Console metrics to investigate and resolve live production issues.
- Delivering Play Store release builds through our CI/CD pipeline.
Outside work, I build apps with Jetpack Compose and MVVM, using Retrofit and Kotlin Coroutines to connect to REST APIs. My projects are on GitHub at github.com/DilshanNish97.
I also have a background in AI. My final-year research, a Sinhala conversational assistant for doctor appointments built with Python and Rasa, was published at IEEE ICAC 2020. I've completed the Google AI Specialization, and I use Claude Code, Gemini, and ChatGPT daily to speed up development and debugging.
Earlier in my career, I built features for a React web platform and worked on a React Native app during an internship at the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
What I'm interested in: I'm looking for a remote Senior Android Engineer or Software Engineer role with a product-focused team. I'm especially interested in consumer apps such as food delivery, retail, loyalty, and rewards, where my restaurant-app experience applies directly, as well as products that care about accessibility. I'm currently deepening my skills in automated testing (JUnit, Espresso), Clean Architecture, and AWS cloud, and I'm keen to grow toward full-stack work.
I work in GMT+5:30 and am comfortable collaborating with distributed teams across time zones.
