Athena Nguyen

At UC Irvine's SCAN Lab, I investigate how obstructive sleep apnea may increase Alzheimer's risk by assessing older adults, administering PsychoPy cognitive tasks, and analyzing high-density EEG signals.

I've also fabricated high-precision microfluidic device components at ALine Inc. using laser cutters and CNC milling machines. My work included integrating adhesive interfaces for wearable lab-on-chip devices and performing dimensional quality-control inspections.

For a UC Irvine lipoaspirate preparation device project, I developed and validated a scaled-up system designed to produce clean adipose tissue in under 15 minutes with minimal adipose loss. I used ANSYS Fluent to study mixing and phase separation and SolidWorks to optimize geometry for uniform mixing.

I'm also experienced in iterative product development through a shin-splint prevention footwear device and E-SONIC instrument project, contributing across mechanical design, 3D printing, lighting, haptics, sensors, and sound production.
