Alexander Nixon
@alexandernixon
Adjunct Art History professor focused on thesis-driven analysis of Latin American art.
What I'm looking for
I’m an Adjunct Professor of Art History who teaches writing-intensive, online undergraduate courses centered on “formal analysis” and “historical context.” I build my classes around weekly writing assignments, clear goals and objectives, and lecture materials that help students develop evidence-based theses.
My teaching draws on my own research in Cuba, including my master’s thesis work challenging scholarship about Robert Rauschenberg’s 1988 artistic “interchange” in Cuba. In my courses, students learn how art “crystallizes identity,” how to read composition, color, and perspective, and how to connect critical theory to visual form.
Alongside teaching, I bring editorial and production experience from roles such as Editor and Photo Editor-at-Large, where I handled weekly assignments, supervision, rapid turnaround, fact checking, and client-facing professionalism. I also coordinate public programming and digital dissemination work, including curating exhibits and managing web and social channels.
I value active learning—using “naive tasks” and classroom exercises that prompt students to justify what they see with supporting evidence. From Peace Corps service in Guatemala to ongoing academic work, I’ve consistently focused on communication, organization, and turning research into clear, engaging experiences for others.
