Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Captain (Towboat) to join our maritime operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe navigation and operation of towboats, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and safety protocols while leading your crew to execute efficient and effective towage operations.
Responsibilities
- Command and navigate towboats to transport barges and cargo safely and efficiently along designated waterways.
- Conduct pre-voyage inspections to assess the vessel's operational readiness and safety equipment compliance.
- Ensure the crew is trained on safety procedures and emergency protocols, fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of vessel operations, including navigation, weather conditions, and crew shifts.
- Collaborate with dispatch and shore personnel to coordinate logistics and optimize towage operations.
- Monitor weather and water conditions, making real-time decisions to ensure safe navigation.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard Master’s License (or equivalent) for the appropriate tonnage and route.
- 3+ years of experience operating towboats or similar vessels in commercial settings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of maritime laws, navigational charts, and vessel operations.
Preferred:
- Experience in towing operations and handling various types of cargo.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor crew members.
- Proficiency in using electronic navigation systems and equipment.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in vessel navigation systems, including RADAR, GPS, and AIS technology.
- Ability to conduct engine room operations and machinery maintenance as needed.
- Familiarity with marine communication systems and safety equipment.
