Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Special Education to lead our efforts in providing exceptional educational support tailored to the unique needs of our students with disabilities. In this fully remote role, you will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of our special education programs, ensuring alignment with best practices and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive special education strategy that enhances educational outcomes for students with disabilities
- Lead and support a team of special education professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment
- Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant legislation
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the needs of each student
- Monitor the effectiveness of special education programs and services, making data-informed recommendations for improvement
- Provide professional development and training for staff on special education best practices and differentiated instruction
- Engage with families and communities to promote understanding and support for special education initiatives
- Serve as a liaison between the school district and outside agencies to coordinate resources and services for students
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in special education, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- In-depth knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making
Preferred:
- Doctorate in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Experience with remote education delivery and virtual learning environments
- Successful track record of implementing innovative programs that improve student outcomes
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in special education software and tools for IEP development and tracking
- Experience with data analytics platforms and educational assessment tools
- Familiarity with online learning management systems (LMS) and digital communication tools
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
