Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and compassionate Director of School Counseling to lead our counseling program, ensuring that all students receive comprehensive support for their academic, social, and emotional development. In this pivotal role, you will oversee a dedicated team of counselors, implement best practices, and collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to foster a nurturing environment that promotes student success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the district's educational goals and student needs.
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of school counselors, providing guidance in counseling techniques, crisis intervention, and student advocacy.
- Collaborate with school administrators and educators to create and implement programs that address student mental health, academic achievement, and social-emotional learning.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of counseling programs and services, utilizing data to inform improvements and adaptations.
- Engage with parents, guardians, and the community to build strong support networks for students and promote awareness of available counseling services.
- Stay current with counseling best practices, legal requirements, and emerging trends in education and mental health.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in school counseling, psychology, or a related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor.
- 5+ years of experience in school counseling, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated understanding of school counseling frameworks and mental health support services.
Preferred:
- Experience developing and implementing counseling programs in a diverse school environment.
- Strong knowledge of educational laws and regulations related to student mental health and welfare.
- Experience with data analysis and the ability to use data to drive program improvements.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in data management systems for tracking student progress and counseling interventions.
- Familiarity with mental health assessment tools and evidence-based practices for counseling.
- Ability to integrate technology into counseling practices to enhance student engagement and support.
