Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary Department Chair of Physical Education to lead our dynamic and innovative physical education program. This role is critical in shaping the curriculum, fostering a culture of health and wellness, and driving student engagement in physical activity. As the Department Chair, you will oversee faculty development, program assessment, and the integration of modern pedagogical techniques that enhance student learning outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction of the physical education department, aligning with the institution's mission and goals
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes lifelong fitness and health
- Foster an inclusive environment that encourages student participation and retention in physical education
- Conduct regular assessments of the program's effectiveness, using data to inform decision-making and improvement initiatives
- Mentor and support faculty in their professional development, promoting best practices in teaching and assessment
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Engage with external stakeholders, including community organizations, to promote physical activity initiatives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in physical education teaching and leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of current trends in physical education and fitness
- Proven track record of curriculum development and program assessment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
- Doctorate in a relevant field
- Experience in online or hybrid teaching methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and foster an inclusive culture
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in educational technologies and online learning platforms
- Experience with data analysis tools for program assessment and reporting
- Knowledge of health and fitness tracking applications and resources
