Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Photography and Prints Curator to join our esteemed institution. In this role, you will support the curation and management of our photography and print collections, working closely with the senior curator to develop exhibitions and educational programs that highlight the significance of visual arts in our society.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of photography and print collections, ensuring adherence to best practices in conservation and documentation
- Collaborate on the development and installation of exhibitions, including researching themes and selecting works that engage diverse audiences
- Provide support for educational programs and public outreach initiatives, including workshops, lectures, and tours
- Conduct research on artists and historical contexts related to the collection, contributing to exhibition texts and promotional materials
- Engage with visitors and stakeholders to foster appreciation for photography and prints through guided tours and presentations
- Maintain organized records of collections and assist in the management of digital assets related to the photography and print archives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in a museum, gallery, or similar setting with a focus on visual arts
- Strong understanding of photography and printmaking processes, along with familiarity with conservation practices
Preferred:
- Experience in curatorial work or exhibition design
- Proficiency in digital cataloging systems and experience with collections management software
- Knowledge of contemporary and historical artists in photography and print mediums
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with digital asset management systems
- Basic skills in photographic and print conservation techniques
- Ability to use software for exhibition design and visitor engagement
