Role Overview
We are looking for a strategic and innovative Director of Collection Development to spearhead our collection strategies and initiatives. This role is crucial for shaping our library's collection policies, ensuring alignment with our mission, and maximizing the impact of our resources. You will lead a talented team in evaluating, selecting, and acquiring materials that resonate with our diverse community, while also leveraging data-driven approaches to enhance collection effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive collection development strategy that aligns with the organization's mission and community needs
- Lead and mentor a team of collection development professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
- Conduct analysis of current collection trends and usage data to inform acquisition decisions and policy development
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, publishers, and other stakeholders to enhance collection offerings
- Oversee the budget for collection acquisitions, ensuring optimal allocation of resources
- Design and execute outreach initiatives to engage the community in collection development processes
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in collection development within a library or information organization
- Proven track record of strategic planning and execution in collection management
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data to guide decision-making
Preferred:
- Experience with digital collections and emerging technologies in library services
- Familiarity with diverse cultural perspectives and community engagement strategies
- Leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in integrated library systems (ILS) and collection management tools
- Experience with data analysis software and reporting tools
- Understanding of current trends in publishing and information dissemination
