Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Oncology Social Worker to join our dedicated team. In this fully remote position, you will play a crucial role in providing emotional support and guidance to patients and families navigating the complexities of cancer treatment. Your expertise will help empower individuals to cope with their diagnoses and make informed decisions about their care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to understand patients' emotional, social, and financial needs related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique challenges faced by patients and their families.
- Provide counseling and emotional support to patients, families, and caregivers through individual and group sessions.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic patient care.
- Educate patients and families about available resources, support groups, and community services that can assist them throughout their cancer journey.
- Advocate for patients to access necessary services and support, including financial assistance, transportation, and psychological services.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- Current licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of practice.
- 2+ years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in oncology or chronic illness.
- Strong understanding of cancer treatment processes and the psychosocial impact of cancer on patients and families.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with telehealth or remote counseling practices.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services specific to oncology.
- Certification in oncology social work (OSW-C) is a plus.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and telehealth platforms.
- Familiarity with data management tools for tracking patient interactions and outcomes.
- Ability to utilize technology for remote counseling and support.
