Role Overview
As a Juvenile Corrections Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of youth offenders within our facility. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a secure environment, supervising daily activities, and implementing rehabilitation programs that promote positive behavior and personal development among the juveniles.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise the daily activities of juvenile offenders to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations
- Establish a positive rapport with youth to encourage cooperation and foster an atmosphere of respect
- Implement and facilitate rehabilitation programs, including educational and life-skills training
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to maintain safety and security standards
- Respond to behavioral issues and conflicts, employing de-escalation techniques as needed
- Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding juvenile behavior, incidents, and progress
- Collaborate with social workers, educators, and mental health professionals to support the rehabilitation process
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in corrections, social work, or education preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
Preferred:
- Experience working with juvenile populations in a correctional or educational setting
- Knowledge of rehabilitation practices and techniques
- Certification in crisis intervention, first aid, or CPR
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using electronic documentation systems for record-keeping and reporting
- Familiarity with security equipment and monitoring systems
- Understanding of youth behavior management strategies
