Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of International Student Counseling to lead our global counseling initiatives and enhance the support systems for international students. This role is critical in developing comprehensive counseling strategies that promote student well-being, advocacy, and success in an increasingly diverse educational landscape.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee counseling programs tailored to the unique needs of international students, ensuring accessibility and cultural relevance.
- Lead a team of counselors, providing mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities to foster excellence in service delivery.
- Collaborate with academic departments and student services to create integrated support systems that address the academic and personal challenges faced by international students.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through data analysis, surveys, and feedback to continuously improve services and outcomes.
- Advocate for international students' needs at institutional committees and contribute to policy development that affects this demographic.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in international student support and counseling, implementing innovative solutions to improve support services.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in counseling or student support roles, with a focus on international student populations.
- Proven leadership experience in a counseling or educational setting, with a track record of developing effective programs.
- Strong understanding of cultural competence and the unique challenges faced by international students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working in higher education institutions with significant international student enrollment.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and best practices related to international student services.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Experience with counseling software and student management systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools to assess program outcomes and inform decision-making.
- Knowledge of digital counseling platforms and remote support technologies.
