Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Health Unit Coordinator to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this pivotal role, you will be the central communication hub for clinical staff and patients, ensuring the seamless flow of information and coordination of care within our unit. Your ability to manage scheduling, maintain patient records, and support healthcare providers will be critical to enhancing patient experiences and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Oversee patient admission and discharge processes, ensuring accurate and timely documentation
- Coordinate with nursing staff and physicians to facilitate patient care and address any concerns
- Manage the unit's daily operations, including appointment scheduling, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and families, providing information and support
- Maintain up-to-date patient charts and electronic health records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with patient transport and ensure a safe environment for all unit activities
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Health Unit Coordinator or similar preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a healthcare setting, with familiarity in healthcare terminology and procedures
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- Experience in a hospital or clinical environment, particularly in a patient-facing role
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in managing electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Familiarity with medical coding and billing practices is a plus
- Experience with scheduling software and other healthcare management tools
