Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Harbor Pilot to lead our navigation and piloting operations within the harbor. In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels in and out of the port, while also overseeing the piloting team and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Direct and lead piloting operations, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and best practices while managing the navigation of vessels in confined waters.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop strategic plans to mitigate navigational challenges in the harbor.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior pilots, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with vessel operators, harbor authorities, and other stakeholders to coordinate safe transit operations.
- Monitor weather and tidal conditions, utilizing advanced navigational technologies to optimize vessel movements.
- Advise on harbor policies and procedures, contributing to the development of operational guidelines for piloting practices.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a harbor pilot or in a similar maritime leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of local waterways, navigation channels, and port regulations.
- Possession of a valid pilot license and certifications relevant to harbor piloting operations.
- Strong understanding of maritime safety standards and emergency response protocols.
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role overseeing a team of maritime professionals.
- Advanced degree in marine science, maritime studies, or a related field.
