Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Harbor Pilot to join our team, responsible for navigating and guiding vessels safely into and out of port facilities. This leadership role is critical in ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime operations, while also collaborating closely with harbor authorities, shipping companies, and crew members to optimize traffic flow and minimize risks.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the safe navigation of vessels within the harbor and surrounding waterways, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and protocols.
- Conduct thorough assessments of environmental conditions, vessel specifications, and navigational hazards to determine the safest docking and undocking procedures.
- Develop and implement best practices for pilotage operations, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with harbor authorities and shipping companies to streamline operations and resolve any logistical challenges.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior pilots, fostering their professional growth and enhancing team capabilities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vessel masters, addressing their concerns and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in maritime navigation, with at least 5 years in a pilotage role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local maritime laws, regulations, and navigational best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience with advanced navigational technologies and tools, including ECDIS and AIS systems.
- Certifications in maritime safety and pilotage from recognized authorities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-pressure situations and make critical decisions effectively.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in vessel maneuvering techniques, including tugboat operations and mooring procedures.
- Proficient in using navigational software tools and radar systems to enhance situational awareness.
- Familiarity with GIS and other mapping technologies to evaluate and plan harbor operations.
