Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Goat Herder to manage and care for our herd, ensuring their wellbeing and productivity while contributing to sustainable agricultural practices. This position involves overseeing daily activities, monitoring health, and implementing best practices for sheep herding and care.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the feeding, watering, and overall health of the goats, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and care.
- Monitor the herd for signs of illness or distress, and coordinate with veterinary professionals for necessary treatments.
- Implement sustainable grazing practices to promote land health and prevent overgrazing.
- Develop and maintain effective herd management practices, including breeding and raising of young goats.
- Ensure the safety and security of the goats, including securing pastures and managing fencing.
- Maintain records of herd health, breeding, and feeding schedules, providing reports as required.
- Participate in community outreach programs to educate others about sustainable goat farming and the benefits of goats in agriculture.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in animal husbandry, particularly with goats or similar livestock.
- Strong understanding of animal health and nutrition.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in sustainable farming practices.
- Familiarity with herd management software or record-keeping systems.
- Basic knowledge of veterinary care for livestock.
