Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Dairy Husbandry Worker to join our dynamic team focused on sustainable dairy farming practices. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality animal care, ensuring optimal milk production, and promoting the health and welfare of our dairy herd, all while adhering to best practices in animal husbandry.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the health and well-being of dairy animals by conducting regular health assessments and maintaining accurate records.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the herd veterinarian, ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards.
- Assist in the milking process, ensuring efficient and hygienic practices to optimize milk quality.
- Manage feeding operations, including preparing and distributing balanced diets tailored to the nutritional needs of the herd.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of barns, milking parlors, and surrounding areas to promote a safe and healthy environment for animals and staff.
- Participate in breeding programs and assist with calving, providing necessary support to ensure the health of both the cow and calf.
- Contribute to record-keeping related to herd management, production data, and veterinary interventions.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in dairy farming or animal husbandry is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of dairy farming operations and best practices in animal welfare.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience in operating farm equipment and machinery.
- Certification in animal care or husbandry is a plus.
- Understanding of dairy herd management software and record-keeping systems.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with best practices in dairy herd health management.
- Experience with feeding systems and milking technology.
