Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Genetic Counseling to lead our genetic counseling team and drive the strategic direction of our genetic services. This role is pivotal in enhancing patient care through advanced genetic insights and fostering a culture of excellence in genetic counseling practices across our organization.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the genetic counseling team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and patient needs
- Develop and implement innovative genetic counseling programs that enhance patient access and support
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of genetic counselors, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
- Establish quality assurance measures and evaluate the effectiveness of genetic counseling services
Clinical Oversight:
- Oversee the delivery of genetic counseling services, ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care to patients and families
- Manage complex cases and provide expert consultation on challenging genetic counseling scenarios
- Stay abreast of advancements in genetics and genomics to ensure the team is equipped with current knowledge and skills
Education and Advocacy:
- Develop educational materials and training programs for staff and community stakeholders
- Advocate for patients and families regarding genetic testing options and support services
- Engage in outreach activities to promote genetic counseling services and raise awareness of genetic health issues
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or equivalent
- Board certification in Genetic Counseling with active licensure
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in genetic counseling, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record in developing and implementing genetic counseling programs
Preferred:
- Experience in a clinical or academic setting with a focus on genetic disorders
- Strong understanding of genetic testing technologies and their applications in clinical practice
- Experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance in genetic services
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of genetic counseling principles, methodologies, and ethical considerations
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and genetic databases
- Proficient in data analysis tools and patient management software
