Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Assistant Professor of Forest Biometrics to join our academic team. In this role, you will contribute to advancing the field of forest biometrics through teaching, research, and service. You will be responsible for developing and delivering curriculum that integrates quantitative forest measurement techniques with ecological applications, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in forest biometrics, forest inventory, and quantitative methods
- Develop and maintain an active research program focused on forest biometrics, including the application of statistical models and techniques
- Supervise and mentor students in research projects, theses, and dissertations
- Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary research initiatives and community engagement projects
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences
- Participate in departmental and university service activities, including curriculum development and committee work
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in forestry, natural resources, or a related field with a focus on biometrics or quantitative ecology
- Demonstrated expertise in statistical modeling, data analysis, and forest measurement techniques
- Strong record of scholarly research and publication in relevant fields
- Effective teaching skills and a commitment to student success
Preferred:
- Experience with remote sensing and GIS applications in forestry
- Ability to secure research funding through grants and proposals
- Prior experience in mentoring graduate students
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, or Python) for data analysis and modeling
- Experience with forest inventory tools and methodologies
- Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and GIS software
