Role Overview
As the Chief Ferryboat Captain, you will lead our fleet in providing safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible transportation across our waterways. This leadership role requires not only exceptional navigational skills but also a commitment to fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence among the crew. You will oversee the daily operations, ensure compliance with maritime regulations, and engage with stakeholders to enhance our service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Command and navigate ferry vessels safely, ensuring compliance with all local and federal maritime laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Conduct regular training and drills for crew members to maintain high safety standards and preparedness.
- Monitor vessel operations and maintain accurate logs of navigation, weather, and operational conditions.
- Coordinate with port authorities and other stakeholders to optimize ferry schedules and routes.
- Lead incident investigations and develop strategies for continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and environmental stewardship among the crew.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in maritime operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Valid USCG Master’s License (or equivalent) for the appropriate vessel size.
- Strong knowledge of navigation systems, maritime regulations, and safety protocols.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of maritime professionals.
Preferred:
- Experience with ferry operations in similar geographic or regulatory environments.
- Advanced training in maritime safety, environmental management, or emergency response.
- Strong communication skills and experience in stakeholder engagement.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in navigation technologies such as GPS, radar, and electronic charting systems.
- Familiarity with vessel maintenance systems and operational software.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices related to marine operations.
