Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department in the execution of high-stakes projects. In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience in cost estimation to drive accurate forecasting and enhance project profitability. You will be instrumental in building a culture of precision and efficiency, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution from the initial bid to final delivery.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the comprehensive estimating process, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all project bids.
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for various projects, utilizing advanced analytical techniques and industry benchmarks.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary data for accurate cost assessments.
- Analyze historical data and trends to inform future estimating practices and improve forecasting capabilities.
- Implement and refine estimating software and tools to enhance productivity and accuracy in bid submissions.
- Mentor and develop junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the estimating team.
- Engage with executive leadership to present estimates and justify assumptions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Monitor project performance and provide insights for budget management and cost control throughout project lifecycles.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of successful project bids.
- In-depth knowledge of construction processes, cost drivers, and estimating methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in estimating software, such as Sage Estimating or similar tools.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience managing and mentoring teams.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized professional estimating organization (e.g., ASPE, AACE).
- Experience in specialized sectors such as commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced proficiency in cost estimating software and tools.
- Strong familiarity with project management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to analyze and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
