Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department and drive the accuracy and efficiency of project cost assessments. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of construction practices and cost management strategies to oversee all estimating processes, ensuring that our bids are competitive and reflective of the highest standards of quality and precision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating department, providing mentorship and guidance to junior estimators while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop comprehensive project scopes and cost estimates for various construction projects.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
- Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process.
- Review and validate estimates prepared by team members, ensuring compliance with company standards and best practices.
- Participate in bid reviews and presentations, effectively communicating estimating strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor market trends and material costs to proactively adjust estimating practices and maintain competitiveness in bids.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong background in commercial and residential projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing estimating teams and processes.
- Expertise in construction methodologies, material costs, and labor rates.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex project details and make sound decisions.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
- Familiarity with project management software and construction scheduling tools.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced knowledge of construction estimation software and tools.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
- Understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
