Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Protective Services Specialist I to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families by conducting assessments, investigations, and providing necessary interventions in cases of abuse and neglect. You will work closely with families and community resources to develop effective service plans that promote stability and safety.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and investigations of reports related to child abuse and neglect
- Engage with families to gather information, assess needs, and provide support and resources
- Collaborate with law enforcement, medical professionals, and other service providers to ensure the safety of children
- Develop and implement individualized service plans that address the specific needs of children and families
- Document case activities, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Participate in court proceedings and provide testimony as needed to advocate for the best interests of children
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field
- Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and the effects of trauma
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with families and stakeholders
- Ability to work in high-stress situations and manage sensitive information with confidentiality
Preferred:
- Experience in child welfare, social services, or a related field
- Knowledge of community resources and support services available for families
- Understanding of legal and ethical standards in child protection
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in case management software and data entry systems
- Familiarity with documentation and reporting standards in child protective services
- Ability to utilize technology for remote communication and service delivery
