Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Cataloging Librarian to join our dedicated team at [$COMPANY_NAME]. Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cataloging standards and procedures in alignment with national and international bibliographic standards.
- Catalog new acquisitions and ensure accurate metadata creation, enhancing discoverability within the library's systems.
- Utilize integrated library systems (ILS) to manage bibliographic records and monitor cataloging workflows.
- Conduct authority control processes to maintain the integrity of the library's catalog.
- Collaborate with library staff to assess user needs and improve access to resources through effective cataloging practices.
- Participate in training and mentoring staff and interns in cataloging principles and practices.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cataloging and metadata creation in a library setting.
- Strong knowledge of MARC and other cataloging standards (e.g., RDA, AACR2).
- Familiarity with integrated library systems (e.g., Alma, Sierra) and library discovery tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Preferred:
- Experience with digital asset management and metadata standards for digital collections.
- Knowledge of linked data principles and emerging trends in cataloging.
- Proficiency in multiple languages.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in cataloging tools and software, including ILS and content management systems.
- Experience with data manipulation tools (e.g., Excel, MarcEdit) for batch processing of records.
- Understanding of cloud-based library services and their impact on cataloging.
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on user experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with staff and patrons.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
