Role Overview
We are seeking a Library Technical Services Manager to oversee and enhance the technical services operations of our library. This role will involve leading a team responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of library materials, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of our collections while implementing innovative solutions to improve workflow efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of technical services operations, including acquisitions, cataloging, and metadata creation, while ensuring adherence to national standards and best practices.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical services staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Implement and optimize library systems and technologies to enhance resource discovery and access, including the integration of new software and tools.
- Collaborate with library leadership and stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives that align with the library's mission and goals.
- Conduct regular assessments of technical services processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Oversee budget management for technical services operations, including procurement and vendor relationships.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in library technical services, with a focus on acquisitions and cataloging.
- Strong knowledge of library systems and standards (e.g., MARC, RDA, AACR2, and relevant metadata schemas).
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
Preferred:
- Experience with library management systems (LMS) and integrated library systems (ILS).
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in library services, including linked data and digital repositories.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in conducting data-driven assessments.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
