Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Pilot to lead our Air Ambulance operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and patient care. As the Chief Pilot, you will be responsible for overseeing flight operations, training and mentoring pilots, and implementing best practices in air medical transport.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the air ambulance flight operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards
- Oversee pilot training programs, including initial and recurrent training, and conduct performance evaluations
- Develop and implement operational procedures that enhance safety and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure smooth coordination during patient transport
- Monitor and analyze flight data to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes
- Act as a liaison between the flight operations team and senior management, providing updates on operational performance and challenges
- Participate in safety audits and risk assessments, driving initiatives to mitigate identified risks
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 5,000 hours of flight time, with at least 1,500 hours of PIC time in turbine aircraft
- Current and valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP) with appropriate type ratings
- Extensive experience in air ambulance operations or similar aviation sectors
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and air ambulance operational standards
- Proven leadership skills with experience in training and mentoring pilots
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a Chief Pilot or in a senior aviation management role
- Experience with flight operations in diverse environments, including rural and urban settings
- Advanced flight safety training and certifications (e.g., CRM, SMS)
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in flight planning and navigation software
- Deep understanding of aircraft systems and operational capabilities
- Familiarity with electronic flight bags (EFBs) and other aviation technologies
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure situations
- Commitment to safety and patient care, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including medical personnel
