Overview

The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)*, the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking an experienced IT Technical Business Analyst with a strong focus on Salesforce CRM to join our Project Portfolio Planning and Management (P3MO) team. This role partners with business and technical stakeholders to deliver Salesforce‑based solutions through requirements gathering, process analysis, testing/UAT, and reporting. Experience in complex Salesforce environments is highly desired. Salesforce Certified Business Analyst preferred. Additional familiarity with ERP and/or Financial Reporting systems, such as Oracle NetSuite, is a plus.

Please note: We are open to hire this position to work remotely, with periodic travel to Madison expected throughout the year. Remote candidates must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Texas, or Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA) is a private, nonprofit corporation that encourages individuals and organizations to make gifts to the university and to connect with the UW. In 2014, the UW Foundation merged with the Wisconsin Alumni Association® to better serve a growing population of UW alumni and donors. We believe that private support grows out of good relationships between campus leaders, faculty and program staff who need support, and the alumni and friends who want to invest in UW–Madison. We provide important engagement opportunities to link UW–Madison alumni to each other and to their alma mater, building a strong community of Badgers.

Essential Functions

  • Requirements Gathering & Analysis: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and define business and technical requirements. Document functional specifications, user stories, and use cases.
  • Business Process Analysis & Improvement: Analyze and map current business processes and systems. Identify opportunities for improvements, cost savings, and optimization.
  • Technical Solution Design: Apply knowledge in databases and data modeling to collaborate with technical teams in designing, developing, and implementing IT solutions that align with business requirements, while ensuring scalability, performance, and security are properly considered.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment of business objectives with technical deliverables.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize SQL to query databases, analyze data, and generate reports to support business decision-making.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with IT teams to integrate various systems, including Salesforce, MuleSoft, and Oracle NetSuite, ensuring seamless data flow and process automation.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in developing test plans and test cases to ensure that delivered solutions meet business requirements. Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Project Management: Work with project managers to define project scope, timelines, and milestones. Assist in managing risks and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle and take the lead on smaller projects.
  • Systems Administration: Learn and perform end user level systems administration tasks on business systems as needed.

Business Analysis (BA) Competencies:

  • Business Analysis Planning & Monitoring: Ability to develop and manage business analysis activities, including defining and aligning deliverables, resources, and timelines.
  • Elicitation & Collaboration: Skilled in gathering and validating business requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, surveys, and other elicitation techniques.
  • Requirements Life Cycle Management: Proficient in managing requirements throughout their lifecycle, ensuring that all requirements are tracked, traced, and communicated effectively.
  • Strategy Analysis: Capable of analyzing the strategic direction of the business, understanding its goals, and identifying opportunities for IT solutions to support those objectives.
  • Requirements Analysis & Design Definition: Strong capability to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications that guide the design of IT systems.
  • Solution Evaluation: Ability to assess potential solutions to determine whether they meet the defined business and technical needs, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 + experience as a Business Analyst with a technical focus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of the Business Analyst role and associated competencies; knowledgeable in software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles; skilled in meeting facilitation, writing clear and concise Business and Technical documentation, and effectively translating business and stakeholder requirements into functional specifications and system design parameters. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with business and technical teams. Ability to present data-driven insights clearly to stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise, ensuring actionable outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to interpret data, uncover underlying issues, and suggest improvements or solutions.
  • Knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and tools used for data integration and cleaning.
  • Ability to learn and understand information systems enterprise architecture concepts, diagrams and interdependencies.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with the following tools or their equivalents: Visio, JIRA, Confluence, and technical programming skills such as SQL, SOQL. Familiarity with other programming languages like Python or R for more advanced data analysis and automation tasks.
  • Experience with CRM, ERP and/or Financial Reporting systems, system integrations, data modeling, and workflow automation is desired, as is familiarity with Salesforce, MuleSoft, Oracle NetSuite, or similar platforms.
  • Practical AI and automation literacy, with a focus on governed requirements and responsible, business‑aligned AI and automation use.
  • Certification in Business Analysis (Salesforce Certified BA, CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, Six Sigma Green Belt) or Agile methodologies (CSM, SAFe) is a plus.
