About WaterConnect
Many communities in low- and middle-income countries face significant challenges in accessing safe and reliable water and sanitation. A major hurdle is the lack of investment-ready infrastructure projects, as investors are often hesitant to fund early-stage developments due to perceived risks and complexities. This creates a critical financing gap, leaving millions without the fundamental resources needed for health, economic development, and climate resilience. WaterConnect was established to directly address this problem by bridging the gap between the need for water and sanitation infrastructure and the capital required to build it.
As a project development company founded by the award-winning nonprofit Water.org, WaterConnect is dedicated to creating and developing a pipeline of bankable, climate-resilient water and sanitation projects. We partner with a range of private sector entities, including infrastructure developers, utilities, engineering firms, and technology providers, to co-develop projects from concept to financial close. By sharing project development costs and risks, we help transform promising ideas into tangible, investment-ready opportunities. Our focus is on projects that not only expand access to water and sanitation but also improve freshwater quality and address water scarcity, thereby building lasting resilience for households, cities, and entire watersheds against the impacts of climate change. Our work spans the entire water value chain, from bulk water supply and distribution to wastewater treatment and reuse, serving both municipal and industrial needs across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
