In 1870, Thomas and Ellen Warburton opened a small grocery shop in Bolton, Lancashire. But it wasn't until 1876, during a slump in the grocery market, that Ellen Warburton had the insight that would transform their family's future. She began baking bread, and her first batch of four loaves and six cakes sold out in under an hour. Within two weeks, the tiny shop was renamed 'Warburtons the Bakers' and a legacy was born. What started as a practical response to challenging times sparked something special: a commitment to quality baking that would sustain generations to come.

Today, five generations later, that same family spirit guides everything we do. We've grown from a corner shop in Bolton to become the largest bakery brand in the UK, with nearly 5,000 people across 11 bakeries and 18 depots, producing over 2 million fresh products every day.
