About Vitruvian Health
The story of Vitruvian Health is a journey of community, growth, and unwavering commitment to healthcare excellence that spans over a century. Its origins trace back to the winter of 1919, a time when a global influenza epidemic highlighted a critical need for local medical facilities in north Georgia. The arduous journey to Chattanooga for healthcare was a challenge for residents, and the Dalton city directory poignantly stated, 'We need one,' under its hospital listing. In a remarkable display of unity, the area's largest employers, including Crown Cotton Mills and Elk Mills, local physicians, and citizens rallied together. They pooled resources, donating property and funds to establish a new $75,000 hospital, with individuals and organizations furnishing the rooms.
This collective effort culminated in the dedication of the Hamilton Memorial Hospital on May 12, 1921, named in honor of Crown Cotton Mills founder George W. Hamilton, Sr. For decades, the hospital served the community from its downtown Dalton location before relocating in 1956. Over the years, what began as a single hospital evolved into the comprehensive Hamilton Health Care System, growing in both size and sophistication. In 2024, embracing a future of regional expansion and integrated care, the system rebranded to Vitruvian Health. This new identity, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic 'Vitruvian Man' which had been part of the brand since the 1970s, symbolizes the harmony, balance, and interconnectedness of health. The transformation included the significant acquisition of the former Tennova Healthcare – Cleveland, further extending its reach into southeast Tennessee and solidifying its role as a preeminent healthcare provider for the entire region.
