History of VFX Financial

VFX Financial has grown to become a leading non-bank provider of global payments and foreign exchange services.

  • 2001: Voltrex Ltd is established as a full-service FSA regulated inter-dealer broker, located in the City of London.

  • 2003: A dedicated FX Desk serving institutional clients in the deliverable currency market is created as an alternative to the out-moded and expensive offerings provided by the high-street banks.

  • 2005: Voltrex becomes the first non-bank FX company to offer a browser-based FX trading and payments platform streaming over fifty currency pairs with real-time tradeable prices.

  • 2011: Voltrex FX and payments business becomes a separate corporate entity dedicated to providing foreign currency trading and payments as well as client driven solutions. The new company is named VFX Financial PLC headed by Nick England, Clive Shelton and Stephen Brawn and one of the early pioneers of the sector now known as “Fintech”.

  • 2012: VFX Financial PLC becomes a member of the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) with SWIFT BIC code VFXXGB2L.

  • 2013: VFX Financial PLC is granted additional regulation permissions under FSMA with registration no. 592260.

  • 2014: VFX launches the world’s first true multi-currency prepaid card. This allows customers to maintain a multi-currency wallet and spend up to 15 currencies using a single VFX branded Mastercard.

  • 2014: VFX launches “Equity Direct” the world’s first instant account-to-account remittance service in partnership with The Equity Bank Group in Kenya. Since then Equity Direct has been extended to cover bank transfers to other countries in East Africa as well as terminations to in-country mobile money schemes.

  • 2016: VFX Financial PLC is granted E-Money Institution status by the FCA registration no.900530

  • 2017: VFX implements its Agency Banking Solution in partnership with Barclays Bank PLC enabling clients to access the main UK payment schemes to pay and receive using a dedicated UK bank account number and sort code, addressable from any bank within the UK.

  • 2018: Today, our team includes an experienced group of Foreign Exchange professionals working with state-of-the-art technologies supported by a professionally managed bank and payments network enabling FX trading and cross-border payments, 24/7.

  • The Future: Our vision for the future is to continue adding value to clients, whilst minimising the risks inherent in FX trading and cross-border payments. We aim to do this by strict adherence to global best practices in the industry, expanding the number of tradeable currencies and delivering client centric products together with the infrastructure and the controls to support them.
