About TRUMPF
Learn more about TRUMPF and their company culture.
The story of TRUMPF began in 1923 when Christian Trumpf acquired Julius Geiger's mechanical workshop in Stuttgart, Germany. Initially, the company focused on producing flexible shafts, primarily used for dental and printing equipment. However, with the advent of the electric motor, the application of these shafts expanded into industrial tools for processing wood and metal, fueling the company's early growth. By 1927, Julius Geiger employed 70 people, and five years later, the company relocated to a larger facility in Weilimdorf, a suburb of Stuttgart. A significant step in TRUMPF's journey occurred in 1934 with the launch of its first motor-powered hand shears for cutting sheet metal. This innovation marked the company's entry into machine tools and laid the foundation for its future in high-precision machinery. Consequently, in 1937, the company was renamed TRUMPF & Co., formerly Julius Geiger GmbH.
The post-war era saw further evolution. In 1950, a pivotal moment arrived when Berthold Leibinger, Christian Trumpf's godson, began an apprenticeship at the company. His influence over the next 55 years would profoundly shape TRUMPF. The 1950s also witnessed the introduction of stationary nibbling machines, which revolutionized sheet metal processing. International expansion began in 1963 with the establishment of the first foreign subsidiary in Switzerland, followed by entry into the US market in 1969 and Japan in 1977. A major technological leap occurred in 1979 when TRUMPF ventured into laser technology with its first punch-laser machine, the Trumatic 180 Laserpress. This innovation not only enhanced precision in metal cutting but also opened new avenues for laser technology across various industries. The 1980s and 1990s were characterized by rapid global expansion and continued technological advancements, solidifying TRUMPF's position as an industry leader. In 2005, Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller took over the management of TRUMPF from her father, Berthold Leibinger. Under her leadership, the company has continued to grow and diversify, embracing areas like digital connectivity, smart factory solutions, and additive manufacturing, ensuring TRUMPF remains at the forefront of industrial manufacturing technology.
