We are seeking a Software Engineering Director (REMOTE) for a full time and direct hire role for one of our amazing SaaS partners on the east coast.
This Software Engineering Director will lead the software engineering organization. They will partner closely with Product and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality, predictable releases across their product portfolio. This role is a blend of technical leadership with people management, organizational development and strategic technical direction. We need someone who is familiar with modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development workflows and AI-enabled product capabilities. This will be increasingly important as they continue to modernize their platform.
Responsibilities:
- Strong people management skills to lead the engineering team.
- Lead the engineering team to deliver high-quality features, improvements, and releases across a stack that includes Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Spring Security, and React.
- Work with the product team on planning, prioritization, roadmap execution, and SDLC.
- Maintain and improve release predictability, quality and developer experience.
- Collaborate with the technical leads on architectural decisions and strategic technical initiatives.
- Effective communication and coordination across engineering, product, QA, infrastructure and security.
- Partner with Infrastructure and Security leads to support SOC 2 controls, incident response and security posture.
- Support staffing planning, hiring, onboarding, and staff augmentation relationships.
- Champion engineering best practices, coding standards, testing, and CI/CD improvements.
- Foster an engaged, inclusive and continuous-improvement culture within Engineering.
Requirements:
- At least 7–10 years of engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong track record of people management skills to lead development teams and deliver high-quality software at scale.
- Solid technical foundation in modern backend and frontend ecosystems, including Java/Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and React.
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
- Experience improving SDLC processes, release management and engineering workflows.
- Experience with compliance-oriented environments (SOC2 is a must, GxP is a plus).
- Partner effectively with Product and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Solid technical foundation with the ability to understand architecture, code quality and system design.
- Experience working in a smaller organization where leaders are hands-on and collaborative.
- Familiar with semantic technologies (Jena, RDF, OWL, SPARQL, SHACL) is a plus but must be willing to learn.
