In 2017, a group of food systems experts and climate advocates recognized a fundamental problem: the global food system was failing people and the planet. Industrial food production dominated by ultra-processed products and excessive meat consumption had created a crisis of health, environmental degradation, and social inequity. Yet the solutions existed - they simply weren't reaching the people who needed them most.

Tilt Collective emerged from this realization as a philanthropic initiative committed to transforming the global food system. Rather than working within the existing broken structures, they set out to fundamentally reshape how food is produced, distributed, and consumed worldwide. The organization builds powerful partnerships across civil society, philanthropy, governments, and the private sector to make healthy, sustainable foods the most accessible and affordable options for everyone. Through strategic grantmaking, research initiatives, and movement-building, Tilt Collective has become a driving force in advancing plant-rich food systems. Their work has attracted significant backing from major climate philanthropies, including substantial support from the IKEA Foundation, enabling them to scale their vision of a food future where nutritious, sustainable options compete directly with conventional choices on price, convenience, and accessibility.
