In 2019, Canada's energy landscape faced a defining moment: the global shift toward a carbon-neutral economy was accelerating, and the country risked being left behind by strategic efforts from other nations. Canada's energy sector leaders recognized that without a coordinated approach to navigate this transition, the nation faced considerable consequences for its future prosperity. This realization gave birth to The Transition Accelerator - a pan-Canadian charitable organization dedicated to ensuring Canada becomes and remains competitive in a carbon-neutral world.

The Transition Accelerator drives projects, partnerships, and strategies that harness the global shift toward clean growth to secure permanent jobs, abundant energy, and strong regional economies across the country. Adopting the "transition pathways approach" developed by experts on climate, energy, and sustainable development, the organization collaborates with groups across the country - including governments, industry, Indigenous groups, and civil society - to co-create practical visions of the future and direct disruptions toward solving business and social challenges. Their current priorities are Canada's hydrogen economy, electric vehicle market penetration, building decarbonization and electrification, and grid integration. By connecting systems-level thinking with real-world analysis, they enable a more affordable, competitive, and resilient future for all Canadians.
