New Energy Nexus

New Energy Nexus (NEX) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the clean energy transition by supporting diverse clean energy entrepreneurs. Founded in 2004 as the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF) with an initial focus on California, the organization rebranded as New Energy Nexus in 2018 to reflect its expanded global mission. NEX strives towards a vision of 100% clean energy for 100% of the population in the shortest possible time. To achieve this, NEX provides a comprehensive suite of support to entrepreneurs, including funding, accelerator programs, training, mentorship, and access to extensive networks. The organization operates with a strong emphasis on fostering innovation and building equity within the global clean energy economy, recognizing that diverse entrepreneurs are crucial for developing and deploying solutions effectively, particularly at the local level.

New Energy Nexus has established a significant global footprint, with programs and operations in numerous countries, including the United States (California and New York), China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Nigeria, Uganda, and Australia. The organization's work encompasses various initiatives such as bootcamps, hackathons, educational courses, incubators, commercial partnerships, impact funds, grant programs, and loan programs. Since its inception, New Energy Nexus has supported thousands of entrepreneurs and hundreds of startups, mobilizing substantial funding and investment in the clean energy sector. Notable programs include CalSEED and CalTestBed in California, which focus on early-stage entrepreneurs and provide access to testing facilities. NEX also collaborates with various partners, including government agencies, corporations, educational institutions, and civil society organizations, to remove barriers for entrepreneurs and accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies worldwide. The organization is committed to supporting 100,000 startups by 2030, viewing this as a critical goal for addressing climate change.
