The journey of Texas Children's Hospital began in the 1940s with a vision to create a dedicated healthcare facility for children in Houston. The Texas Medical Center had been established, and a group of forward-thinking citizens formed the Texas Children's Foundation to rally support for a specialized pediatric hospital. In May 1951, their dream began to take shape as ground was broken for the new institution. From its inception, a strong partnership was forged with Baylor College of Medicine, ensuring that the hospital would not only provide exceptional care but also serve as a vital training ground for future generations of pediatricians. On February 1, 1954, Texas Children's Hospital officially opened its doors, becoming the very first children's hospital in the state of Texas. The original three-story building housed 106 beds, a humble beginning for what would become a global leader in pediatric medicine.

Over the decades, Texas Children's has experienced remarkable growth, driven by an unwavering commitment to its mission. What started as a single building has evolved into a vast and comprehensive healthcare system. The hospital has continuously expanded its facilities and services to meet the growing needs of the community and beyond. This expansion includes the addition of multiple towers and specialized pavilions, such as the Pavilion for Women, which offers a complete range of obstetric and gynecologic services. Recognizing the need for accessible care, Texas Children's has also established satellite campuses in The Woodlands, West Houston, and Austin, as well as a robust network of primary, specialty, and urgent care clinics throughout the Houston metropolitan area. Today, Texas Children's Hospital is the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, a testament to its enduring legacy of healing, research, and education. It stands as a beacon of hope for children and families from all corners of the world, consistently recognized for its excellence and innovation in pediatric and women's health.
