ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Events

POSITION REPORTS TO: Vice President, Field Fundraising

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Managing Director, Events, you will be responsible for leading strategic event management in support of a cohort-wide fundraising team. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of a diverse portfolio of fundraising events and communication strategies that drive revenue, engage supporters, and advance our mission. As a member of the Field Fundraising team, you will be a part of a team-based effort charged with developing and executing on a long-term vision and strategy to achieve our development goals for both public and private funding. In your role, you will partner with Executive Directors, regional advisory board members, and other front-line fundraisers to maximize giving, and engage donors in local communities who share our commitment to ensuring all children have access to an excellent and equitable education, from local communities in service of Teach For America’s mission and impact.

Reporting to the Vice President, Field Fundraising you will be charged with setting the vision and strategies for a high volume of fundraising and stewardship events as well as support key communication strategies. You will work directly with Executive Directors and Prospect and Donor Managers (PDMs) to ensure they have the high-quality deliverables needed to effectively cultivate and steward and grow their local portfolios of donors, and with regional and national program teams to build your understanding of local and enterprise-wide programmatic priorities and impact to share with TFA’s supporters. We are looking for a specialist in fundraising and development who - in partnership with local Executive Directors and the VP, Field Fundraising - can independently develop and execute the content and experiences that are essential to our strategy to acquire, cultivate, retain, and diversify TFA’s portfolio of donors. We are looking for a true team player who can make a significant contribution across a full cohort-wide portfolio.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • 60% - Partner with Executive Directors, the VP, Field Fundraising, and field fundraising teams to design and execute the vision, strategy, and planning of strategic fundraising and cultivation events annually, with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization. In addition to being a critical way of generating philanthropic support, these events provide platforms to showcase and amplify the impact of our work, highlight the successes of our partner schools, teachers, and students, acquire and steward donors, and build brand awareness and equity in the community and among all stakeholders.

  • 30% - Collaborate with the Frontline Fundraising team to develop strategic donor-facing communications (newsletters, annual reports, annual appeals), with guidance and support from a team lead.

  • 5% - Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (currently SalesForce) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach

  • 5% - Steward team and organizational initiatives

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):

  • Relationship Building and Management

    • Highly skilled relationship builder, both internally and externally

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience tailoring content and approach for different constituency groups

    • Effectively collaborate with others on various work and tasks, and ability to proactively problem solve and navigate complexity

    • Strong team orientation and ability to build relationships within and across teams, with an ability to manage up and laterally to influence teammates

    • Serve as an effective organizational steward in all direct event-related communications and touchpoints with donors

  • Fundraising and Development

    • Specialize in best practices of development and event fundraising

    • Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in supporting fundraisers and Executive Directors across a cohort team

    • Support team members in producing high-quality deliverables aligned to current and prospective donor portfolio

    • Leverage historical local development trends in order to set strategy and/or adjust course as necessary

  • Planning, Execution, & Project Management

    • Experience in complex project management, including managing up and laterally, to meet outcomes, deadlines, and event fundraising goals

    • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks across multiple team members and projects, and make timely decisions and managing workflow and resources

    • Consistently create and maintain systems, processes, and rituals that assist the team in completing projects and plans

    • Progress monitor against goals and benchmarks, and reflect, evaluate, and report onthe results and lessons learned

  • Innovation

    • Flexible orientation to problem solving, with the ability to adjust strategies and priorities as needed to meet event goals

    • Ability to explore new ideas, methodologies, different positions, and alternatives to reach outcomes and not being constrained by conventional thinking and established approaches

    • Desire to question and interrogate current and potential processes and consider their impact on outcomes, individuals, and the team

Prior experience

  • Required: At least 7+ years of related experience in development and fundraising events

  • Required: Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as an event fundraiser and manager

  • Required: Track record of managing multiple projects at the same time and excelling in fast paced environment

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Work Demands

  • Occasional weekend or evening work hours required.

  • Must be able to travel to lead regional events and engage with local teams

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

The Revenue and Development team at Teach For America inspires donors and champions to contribute to shaping the future of our country by investing in Teach For America’s work with students nationally and regionally. We aim to source investments that fuel our work and impact with a revenue growth trajectory to raise $300 million annually. This role will be an essential part of the Field Fundraising arm of the Revenue and Development team, maximizing the contributions of local donors across multiple regions of the country.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A: $90,000 - $122,800

Tier B: $98,000 - $133,800

Tier C: $106,100 - $144,800
