The Spectarium art team is on the lookout for a passionate animator to help breathe life into our extraordinary creatures and legendary heroic characters, working on our very exciting stylised hand-painted fantasy IP that draws its inspiration from fantastic mythological worlds.

Working alongside our talented principal animator your close collaborators would include character artists, technical artists, programmers and designers with a high level of initiative needed, and rewarded, with autonomy and the invitation to actively influence how features, combat and storytelling are developed.

With timeless mythologies at our fingertips you can be sure of a wide and diverse horde of creatures, epic boss fights and iconic protagonists that will keep feeding your creativity from one encounter to the next.

Responsibilities:

  • Create consistent high-quality gameplay, combat and creature animations.
  • Prototype concept animations to quickly test in game engine and seek feedback from stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with technical artists in relation to skinning and stress testing of proposed rigs.
  • Assist with optimisation and debugging to fix potential issues
  • Take ownership over the animation demands of entire characters and other assets, from design to implementation.
  • Working alongside other disciplines such as environment art and UI to make our world feel alive.
  • Contribute to the creation and design of thrilling boss battles.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of animation fundamentals in different styles (stylized, hyper-realistic, cartoony, etc.)
  • Experience working on gameplay animations for both large and small creatures and characters
  • Strong observational skills coupled with a strong understanding of weight distribution and pacing/timing
  • Accomplished knowledge of current animation techniques and animation Software (Maya, most importantly, but other packages are useful to know)
  • 3+ years of experience working with dev teams or one or more shipped titles from conception to completion.
  • Experience working inside Unity.
  • A genuine passion for fantasy games and a strong interest in character animation and storytelling.
