Founding Software Engineer (AI Wearable Platform)

Were working with an early-stage startup building an AI-powered wearable and a connected software platform that sync together to deliver personalised, real-time experiences.
This is a Founding Engineer role — youll be one of the first technical hires, working directly with the founder to build the initial product end-to-end and shape the technical foundations of the company.
What youll be doing
Build the first version of a wearable-connected software platform
Develop an early MVP web/laptop app that configures and syncs with the device
Work across frontend, backend, integrations, and infrastructure
Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on product ideas
Help turn early concepts into a stable, demo-ready product
Act with a founder mindset: ownership, prioritisation, and pragmatic decision-making
What kind of engineer are we looking for
Strong full-stack engineer comfortable owning systems end-to-end
Experience shipping MVPs or early-stage products
Comfortable working in ambiguity and moving fast without heavy process
Independent problem-solver who doesnt need hand-holding
Clear communicator — direct, proactive, and practical
Typical background
3–7+ years of hands-on engineering experience (or equivalent depth)
Startup, scale-up, or solo-builder experience is a strong plus
Indicative tech environment
(Not fixed — youll help shape it)
Frontend: React
Backend: Node.js or Python
APIs, AI integrations, modern cloud tooling
Lightweight, pragmatic stack focused on speed and reliability
Working setup
Fully remote
Minimum 20 hours/week (full-time preferred)
Some overlap with NZ time zone
Direct collaboration with the founder
