About Seradata
Seradata's journey began with a consultancy request in 1979 when Aviation Information Services Limited, a subsidiary of Airclaims Group Limited, was tasked by the aviation insurance broker Willis to research launch vehicle failure rates. Recognizing the value of this information, and with Willis's permission, this research was transformed into the 'Space Review' print publication. This monthly updated journal quickly gained a reputation as the definitive guide for Lloyd's of London underwriters involved in insuring satellites and their launches. The rich data accumulated through this process was later digitized into the Ecco database in the late 1980s.
A significant evolution occurred in 1997 when, after a major redevelopment, the database was relaunched as SpaceTrak. The platform embraced the digital age further by moving online in 2005. The year 2013 marked a pivotal moment as Seradata Ltd (Space Equipment Research & Analysis) was established through a management buyout of the Seradata database product (then SpaceTrak) from Reed Business Information Ltd, part of RELX plc. This transition allowed Seradata to focus its mission on providing the space industry with world-class decision support tools, data, and analysis. In 2015, the Seradata platform, an advancement of SpaceTrak, was introduced, offering a modern and dynamic interface for space data research and analysis. The company's trajectory took another significant turn in August 2022 when Seradata was acquired by Slingshot Aerospace. This acquisition aimed to combine Seradata's authoritative database with Slingshot's capabilities to enhance the monitoring, simulation, and optimization of space systems, further solidifying Seradata's position as a leading space data publisher. Today, Seradata continues to provide comprehensive, consistent, independent, and authoritative information covering every orbital launch and satellite since Sputnik in 1957, as well as future planned spacecraft and launches, serving a global clientele that includes governments, space agencies, aerospace manufacturers, satellite operators, insurance companies, and universities.
