Senior Mechanical Engineer 1 – Government Services

Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering and consulting to the management and operating contractors for the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This is a mid-level design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Mechanical Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement.

• Support mechanical design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design team
• Responsible for production of engineering calculations/analyses, design drawings and engineering reports
• Apply mechanical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components
• Produce Procurement Specifications and Construction Specifications (Mechanical sections)
• Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs
• Mentor junior engineers
• Approximately 25% domestic travel

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.

Essential skills and experience:

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
• BSME or MSME degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• 5+ years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering in a nuclear environment (DOE preferred, commercial or Navy)
• Experience with ASME and other national consensus codes and standards

Valued, but not required skills and experience:

• PE license
• Field Engineering and Construction Experience is a plus
• Experience with remote handling equipment (e.g., glove boxes, fume hoods, etc.) design and installation strongly desired
