As the Packaging Business Development Manager in Ruhrpumpen (RP), you will be responsible for growing sales and market presence for custom engineered system solutions. Often, skid mounted engineered systems may include pumps, controls, piping, valves, instrumentation, etc. RP’s engineered system capabilities extend well beyond complex pumping systems to include system solutions that may not even include pumps. Typical RP engineered system applications include hot oil, process cooling, oil pipeline, boiler feed, and much more. RP has grown in the pump manufacturing space over the last 75 years to be known as the specialists for pumping technology. We now must ensure the market knows that our expertise includes engineered systems.
This role will target both existing RP customers (who are knowledgeable of RP’s extensive pump offering), as well as give RP another avenue to approach new customers where engineered system solutions are more in line with their needs (versus primarily a pump only focus). Customer base to include (but not limited to) process/consultant/mechanical/rotating equipment engineers involved in the design and/or procurement of engineered systems, as well as potential OEM customers who have a need for systems solutions to incorporate into their product offering.
This role requires technical knowledge (deep understanding of system requirements and why customers should consider a complete system versus building themselves), and knowledge of major markets and their needs [energy/oil and gas, power generation, chemical, industrial fluid management (including data centers),etc.] for engineered system solutions.
This role also requires ability to develop commercial strategies to grow Engineered Systems sales. Expertise in knowledge of existing and future projects, competitor abilities, and competitor geographic footprint and strongholds is a must. This market intelligence must be successfully transferred to RP’s global sales engineering team so via transferred knowledge, localized opportunities and relationships are developed which is all part of establishing an effective sales strategy.
Main responsibilities:
  • Analyze market trends and competitor activities (this includes pricing strategies to allow competitiveness in all areas)
  • Identify those customers (both existing for RP and new) that work with engineered system packagers
  • Develop market entry strategies for new regions
  • Build and maintain strong active relationships with this customer base at all levels (engineering, procurement, decision-makers/buying influencers)
  • Conduct high-level meetings and technical-commercial presentations
  • Impart knowledge to existing RP sales engineering teams to ensure that within each geographic region, the intelligence required to grow and/or penetrate customers with these needs is known
  • Act as the main point of contact during early project development stages
  • This role will involve dealing with many RP internal teams…specifically:
    • External (customer-facing) Sales Engineers
    • Internal Sales Engineers (especially our specialized group dealing only with engineered systems quoting)
    • Sales Management
    • Operations
    • Field Services
    • Legal
  • Ensure alignment between technical capability and customer needs
Job requirements:
  • Degree in business management, engineering, or equivalent discipline
  • Previous business experience (with specific skill sets as identified above)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong skills to build relationships
  • MS Office Products
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Availability and willingness to travel globally up to 50% of the time
At Ruhrpumpen, we value every employee, recognizing that each person contributes to our success through their position. We are one team! … Join our growing team!

The story of Ruhrpumpen, a name derived from Germany's Ruhr river and the German word for 'pump', began its journey in 1950. Its origins are rooted in the industrial heartland of Witten, Germany, where, in the aftermath of World War II, it started as a modest operation named Ruhrpumpen GmbH Wende & Hentschel. The initial focus was on maintaining and repairing existing pumps of all kinds and manufacturing spare parts. As the post-war era spurred new construction and industrial growth, the demand for new pumping equipment surged, particularly for the shipping industry, followed by pipelines and refineries. This necessity became the mother of invention for Ruhrpumpen, shaping its early product portfolio and setting it on a path of continuous evolution and expansion.

The company's trajectory was marked by a series of acquisitions and mergers, reflecting the dynamic nature of the industrial landscape. In 1955, it was acquired by Rurhstahlwerke and later, in 1963, by Rheinstahl Hüttenwerke. A significant merger with Thyssen in 1974 saw Ruhrpumpen become part of a major industrial conglomerate for over two decades. However, a pivotal moment arrived in 1997 when the Mexican family company, Corporación EG, led by the visionary entrepreneur Cesar A. Elizondo Villarreal, acquired Ruhrpumpen. This was a landmark event, marking the first time a Mexican entrepreneur invested in a German industrial company. This acquisition was not just a change in ownership but a fusion of cultures and expertise. Corporación EG, with its own strong history in manufacturing since 1979, brought a new dynamism. The acquisition of the Flowserve (Byron Jackson) factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2000, was another strategic milestone, opening up the vast US market. Under this new leadership, Ruhrpumpen transformed into a global, family-owned powerhouse, dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and servicing highly-engineered pumping solutions for critical industries like oil and gas, power generation, chemical processing, and water management across the globe.
