Recruiting Firm, Riderflex has been hired by our client, Camunda, to find their Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Operations!

Company: Camunda
Industry: Software Development
Title: Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Operations
Location: Remote
Type: Full-Time, W-2
Salary: $143,800-$231,900

About the Role:

As the Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Operations, you will own, develop and continuously improve the core engineering processes that keep a 130+ person engineering organization running - including our Camunda 8 product release train, incident workflow management, on-call process governance, internal tooling integrations, and engineering metrics collection.

Your north star is time returned to engineering organization and meaningful improvement in how teams work day-to-day enjoying operational excellence in place.

This hands-on, high-impact engineering role treats these processes as products: thoughtfully stabilizing, automating, and evolving them end-to-end so engineers can focus on building rather than navigating operational overhead. The purpose of this role is to reduce friction, strengthen reliability, and transform scattered manual effort into well-designed systems that “just work.”

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Own and modernize engineering processes such as cross-team release automation, incident workflows, and internal tooling integrations

  • Identify friction in engineering operations workflows, and take it to next level by automating and orchestrating it, ensuring scalability

  • Holistically connect systems and data across GitHub, Asana, Slack, and Camunda 8 via API

  • Partner with software engineers, engineering leaders and cross-team stakeholders (Product Operations, Support) to understand their workflow pain points and improve organizational experience

You would enjoy this role if:

  • You get energy from removing friction and seeing whole Engineering organization move faster because of your work

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and bias for action: you create clarity by acting

  • You’re not just gluing data and automating: you enjoy designing and automating internal systems and processes, so they are reliable, observable, and scale gracefully

  • You want to have wide impact, influence and leverage in the Engineering organization

  • You’re excited to work with Camunda 8 not just as a product, but as the orchestration backbone for internal engineering operations

  • You’re an advocate for effective use of AI in Engineering, and see it as a way to accelerate iteration and discovery

  • You want to collaborate with senior, thoughtful engineers and leaders, who value autonomy, trust, and ownership

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Ability and/or willingness to use our product

  • Hands-on backend/fullstack software engineering foundation; you’re comfortable building systems integrations and automations

  • Experience automating engineering or developer productivity processes (e.g. release process, incident process, metric collection/organizational observability etc.) in medium to large-scale organizations

  • Pragmatic instinct for iterative implementation: MVP → iteration → scale

Must Haves:

  • Hands-on track record of owning and developing engineering processes end-to-end in growing software organizations

  • Strong backend software engineering foundation and fluency in one or more of: Python, Java, TypeScript

  • Strong automation scripting experience (e.g. Shell/Python or similar)

  • Confident working with CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar)

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience building systems using workflow orchestration platform (e.g. Camunda/BPMN or similar)

  • Experience building internal tooling for engineering organizations

  • Driving turning engineering metrics into operational improvements
