This is a critical role, instrumental to the Company’s success, as we continue to scale our operations with direct sourcing from manufacturers; fulfill and ship millions of orders to the US from different global locations in less than 24 hours with air cargo or a few days of ocean cargo transit. This leader is required to work cross-functionally with BSA agents, freight operators, carriers, airlines and ocean freight providers and operators throughout Quince to build and support a cost effective and reliable freight solution to rapidly enable better efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.The Director of Global Freight will be responsible for all international and domestic air/ocean freight management including developing a holistic strategy and managing standardized SOPs for least cost, timely and reliable daily freight booking and operations into major airports in the US. The ideal candidate is expected to build and manage the respective business operations through co-design, development, and implementation of systems, processes with carriers, freight forwarders/agents, airlines, ocean carriers and customs brokers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee strategy and operational responsibilities including review and approval of SOPs and changes into freight operations procedures and processes
- Manage supplier relationships, quality issues, freight dispatch and cycle times, and costs as per agreed SLAs. Manage advanced booking with freight brokers, air lines or ocean carriers, daily line haul to origin airports and hand over to ground staff at international airports
- Ensure zero package mis/short pick and shipment loss during international transit and handover to US airport ground staff
- Establish control structures to operate, audit and remediate shortcomings to consistently meet >98% same day cargo tender and dispatch from HK (and CN, IN in future) to US gateways and within US air hubs for domestic air-line haul
- Establish and enforce redundant or fall back models in freight booking and transfer services to achieve utmost reliability in end-to-end freight transfer (uplift-retrieval) in <24 hr
- Collaborate with IT and other logistics operations functions to automate freight events data collection and tracking operations
- Stay current on market conditions for Global /domestic-US based logistics and freight trends and communicate market updates across the organization
- Report on daily progress and status of all operational metrics to leadership and operating teams
- Develop and implement operations financial strategies, including budgets and cost controls
- Follow country and partner specific contractual and legal policies as directed
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experiences and demonstrated success in Global and US inbound cross border logistics procurement, specifically in freight booking and transfer management
- Deep understanding of international freight forwarder, IATA and air/ocean cargo service ecosystem and providers
- Working in a fast-paced, start-up environment – with a focus on operational efficiency
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to influence others without formal authority
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity in developing successful strategies for business growth
