  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist in establishment of a “safety culture” and taking corrective action as situations may require
  • Participating in safety meetings and drills as required
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring quality of department related client deliverables
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with compilation and revision of department related start of job, weekly and end of job reports
  • Undertaking proactive maintenance of the onboard processing hardware
  • Managing the assigned shift onboard as directed by the Chief Field Geophysicist
  • Liaising with seismic departments in matters related to geophysical specifications, parameters, data quality, data processing and deliverables
  • Liaising with Client Representative in matters related to geophysical specifications, parameters, data quality, processing and deliverables when directed by the Chief Field Geophysicist
  • Implementing the department planned maintenance routines
  • Actively and systematically seeking and suggesting improvements and innovations.
  • Supporting the “Explore Green” initiatives and assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring that all proposed department tasks take into consideration their environmental impact and any residual impacts are mitigated accordingly
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring that all waste generated by the department’s work practices is recorded, minimized, reduced, re-used, or recycled
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring that all department consumables and relevant accessories will, so far as is possible, not pose undue hazards to personnel or plant or negative environmental impact
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring that when evaluating materials for purchase a green alternative has been considered and if the green alternative is found to be an adequate replacement, then it is purchased when and if available
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with the cross training of other departments on seismic vessel in geophysics, onboard data quality control and processing
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with revision of survey line logs
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with maintaining and updating the PMS, procedures, checklists, and other internal or external publications relative to the Geophysical department
  • Assisting with EHS audits as mandated by Company policy and as circumstances require
  • Following the onboard chain of command structure and duties assigned under the Station Bill
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring performance and behavior of the Geophysical department meets the company and professional requirements
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with ensuring the department’s and survey filing systems are maintained in accordance with the standard set forth by the Company.
  • Monitoring adherence to contract technical specifications:
      • Overall verification and QC of seismic data quality
      • Overall verification and QC of positioning data quality
      • Overall verification and QC of seismic survey coverage
      • Overall verification and QC of geophysical products
  • Assisting the Chief Field Geophysicist with coordination and validation of all geophysical data shipments/transfers and documentation delivered to Client or data processing center.
  • Reporting quality related non-conformities and immediate communication to the Chief Field Geophysicist when any degradation of the quality is observed or a problem occurs, indicating the possible causes and suggested corrective actions
  • Test data processing algorithms and workflows according to project plan.
  • Provide assistance to Processing Project Geophysicist on geophysical quality related matters
  • Occasional rotation to the data processing center to assist the team if necessary
  • Assisting with back deck and insea operations as directed by Chief Field Geophysicist

Requirements

  • Degree level qualification in Geophysics or a related discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in geophysics / seismic acquisition quality control.
  • Knowledge of industry’s best practices in 3D seismic data processing, including seismic tape and navigation processing, noise attenuation, demultiple technology, velocity analysis and model building, stacks and migrations
  • Sound English verbal and written communication skills.
