About Providence Healthcare
For 130 years, we have been at the forefront of health care in Canada, driven by a legacy of compassion and a commitment to social justice. Our journey began in 1894 when the Sisters of Providence arrived in Vancouver to open the first St. Paul's Hospital. While we were officially formed as Providence Health Care in 2000, that foundational spirit of service continues to guide us every day. We are one of the country's largest Catholic health care organizations, and we operate 17 sites across Vancouver, British Columbia. Our work is a partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, the Provincial Health Services Authority, and the University of British Columbia, allowing us to provide a comprehensive range of health services to all British Columbians.
Our mission is rooted in the principle of 'How you want to be treated.' This philosophy extends to everyone we interact with—our patients, residents, their families, and each other. We are dedicated to providing exceptional, compassionate care, especially to the most vulnerable populations in our society. We recognize their complex needs and strive to help them live healthier lives through innovation, respect, and unwavering support. We are not just a health care provider; we are also a teaching and research organization. By integrating evidence-based research and education into our care, we lead advancements that improve lives and set new standards for best practices globally. We are proud of our specialized programs, including those for heart and lung diseases, kidney disease, mental illness, HIV/AIDS, urban health issues, and seniors' care. As we look to the future, with major projects like the new St. Paul's Hospital on the horizon, we remain steadfast in our commitment to healing, innovation, and serving our communities with head and heart.
