About Participatory Culture Foundation
We're a nonprofit organization that's been working since 2006 to build a more collaborative, inclusive world through technology. Our team develops open-source platforms that break down language barriers and make media accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or what languages they speak. We believe that when people can truly understand each other, we can create the kind of peaceful, abundant culture we all want to live in.
Today, our work centers on two main initiatives: Amara, our award-winning subtitling and captioning platform that makes video content accessible worldwide, and Amplifying Voices, which brings together creators, translators, and communities to build a more inclusive media ecosystem. We're a fully distributed team spread across seven countries, working remotely with Django, Python, and JavaScript to power our platforms. We've been honored with recognitions like the FCC's Advancement in Accessibility Award and the UN Alliance of Civilizations Innovation Award, but what really drives us is seeing millions of people access content they couldn't before. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we're not here to maximize profits - we're here to ensure everyone has access to all that the internet has to offer.
